Difference Between Water-Repellent and Waterproof
There are two frequently confused concepts in outdoor fabrics:
- Water-Repellent Fabric: When liquid touches the fabric, it beads and rolls off the surface, not seeping in. Its breathable structure prevents sweating. It is excellent for light to moderate summer rains.
- Waterproof Covers: The fabric has a membrane or laminated layer on the back, completely preventing water from passing to the lower layer even during heavy winter rains.
Why Don't Solution-Dyed Acrylic Fibers Fade?
In standard fabrics, after the yarn is produced, it is dipped into a dye bath; the color remains only on the surface like a shell. The sun's UV rays quickly bleach this surface. In solution-dyed acrylic fabrics, color pigments are added when the raw material is still in a liquid polymer state. Just like a carrot is the same orange color inside and out, the core of the fiber has the same color. This way, it retains its color for years, even under direct sunlight.
Cleaning and Stain Removal for Outdoor Fabrics
- Bird Droppings and Tree Resin: Allow them to dry, scrape off with a soft brush, then wipe with warm soapy water.
- After-Rain Care: Slightly tilt the cushions upright to allow water to drain quickly from the zipper edges.
- Mold Prevention: The fabric itself does not mold due to its synthetic nature; however, dust and organic dirt accumulated on the fabric, when combined with moisture, create a breeding ground for mold. Regularly vacuuming the cushions completely prevents mold.
